Garrett A. Morgan Technology and Transportation Education Program

Federal Highway Administration
Preparing today’s youth to become 
tomorrow’s transportation professionals.

A national transportation education initiative founded by former Secretary of Transportation Rodney E. Slater as the Garrett A. Morgan Technology and Transportation Futures Program.  In 2005, Congress authorized and funded the Garrett A. Morgan Technology and Transportation Education Program (GAMTTEP) in the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act:  A Legacy for Users (Public Law 109-59). 

Purpose –   To improve the preparation of students, particularly women and minorities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through curriculum development and other activities related to transportation.

 Type of Grant – Discretionary grants

 Eligible Applicants – State and local educational agencies, which may enter into a partnership agreement with institutions of higher education, businesses, or other entities, are eligible to apply for grants.

Estimated Funding – $1,000,000 - $2,000,0000

Anticipated Number of Awards – Up to 20 grants

Estimated Award Per Grantee – $100,000
