ANNOUNCEMENTS
Excellence in
Aviation Award
Closing Date:
September 15, 2008
In 1997, as part of the COE
Program, the FAA determined it was important to recognize
its external partners through the Excellence in Aviation
Research Award. This designation is a highly competitive,
non-monetary award that is presented each year to worthy
individuals or institutions conducting research that
enhances airport and aircraft safety, improves capacity,
and/or contributes to the development of the Next Generation
Air Transportation System. Nominees must clearly show how
their past research benefits the aviation community today.
The nomination period for the
2008 award closes on September 15. Please share this
information with anyone within our COE community or those
who are dedicated to advancements in aviation through their
research activity who may be interested in nominating or
being nominated for this award. We have proudly had COE
members/researchers acknowledged with this award over the
past decade. Let's keep up the tradition of acknowledging
our dedicated COE universities and corporate sponsors.

COE STUDENT
and FACULTY OF THE YEAR Nominations
It has come to our attention
that the COE community is involved in many critical areas
supported by the FAA and we often neglect to acknowledge the
important contributions that are being made and the
achievements of our partners. The FAA will soon be
announcing the opening of the
DOT/FAA Outstanding Student
of the Year Awards competition (standard announcement and
submission package as in the past) and one presentation will
be made to a COE student at the TRB Council of University
Transportation Centers (CUTC) banquet in January 2009.
Additionally, the COEs will be able to highlight an
outstanding Professor and nominate him/her for recognition
by the FAA. Particulars will be provided at a later
date. We expect to highlight these individuals in the
R&D News that will be issued by ATO in January.
